Hi. I am Gus (aka Susan). I have worked at the Comedy Attic since whatever year the Cubs won the World Series. And for years after Rhino's closed, the same conversation kept coming up.
So many people doing comedy locally had been shaped by Rhinos. It was where they learned, experimented, failed safely, and built community. And every time we talked about it, we'd say the same thing: it's such a bummer it doesn't exist anymore.
For a long time, that's where it stayed - a bummer. Until it became clear that no one else was going to rebuild that kind of space. I wasn't the obvious choice, and I wasn't eager to lead. But someone had to do it. So, I did it.
Artist Adjacent and Rover's grew out of that gap - out of grief for what we lost and responsibility to what comes next. And honestly, given the state of the world right now - here in Indiana, in the U.S. - it feels like we could really use a win.
Opening an all-ages club feels like a local win we can actually touch. A place where people can show up before they're "ready," before they're polished, before they age out or burn out. A place that says creativity matters here, and community does too.
This isn't about nostalgia. It's about giving people something real to gather around again - and proving that building something good, right where we are, is still possible.
Gus
We are new. We are learning. Be patient with us. We will get there. We promise.
